Laptop Theft from Ohio Rotary Club

Gambitta’s Party Center in Northfield Center was the site of two car break-ins this past Tuesday, according to an article at cleveland.com. The Nordonia Hills Chamber of Commerce and the Nordonia Hills Rotary Club held their joint luncheon at the party center during a severe rainstorm. Despite the weather, a thief ransacked two cars in the parking lot, breaking the windows and stealing a laptop from one vehicle.

The laptop belonged to Ed Bartlett of AXA Advisors. He said, “We’ve got a privacy department at our headquarters in New York that I’ll have to work with, but I purposely carry few customer contacts with me, but there were a few. This was my business laptop and there was all kinds of confidential information. This (incident) has cost me a whole day and it’s just the beginning.”

Though Bartlett recently upgraded the security, “I recently had the passwords changed, so they will need my Smart Card and fingerprint to get into it – it’s heavily encrypted,” he said, “They will never be able to use it,” both Bartlett and the Police who handled the case highly doubt the laptop will ever be recovered.

Had the laptop been equipped with MyLaptopGPS, it could likely have been returned without harm.
