Tip of the Week: Airport Insecurity
For those who travel with laptops, the zoo that is the security checkpoint is a none-too-welcome hassle. Of course, many veteran travelers have gone through security so many times that they do have it down to a science, and the main frustration is dealing with the inexperienced travelers in front of them in line.
Still, all travelers need to remember that the airport security checkpoint is a huge “insecurity” point for laptops. The Ponemon Institute recently released a study that showed roughly 12,000 laptops per week lost or stolen in US airports alone.
That’s 12,000, per week, merely in US airports. I’d call that a problem.
The security checkpoint is the #1 place to lose a laptop, or have it stolen, since your attention is diverted. Most often, folks just leave their laptops and hustle on to their flight.
Be extra vigilant when you go through security at the airport. And, as always, really do try to give yourself plenty of time to make your flight. As you’d expect, those in a hurry are far more likely to end up at Point B with their laptops still sitting at Point A.
