Rip of the Week: 2,000 People Breached by Stolen Laptop in Guam
The latest medical laptop theft in focus comes from Guam Memorial Hospital. Thanks go to lyger on the DatalossDB list for the tip. According to a report at KUAM News, officials at GMH reveal that a laptop was stolen in late October from a locked office at the hospital, and they are investigating how this occurred.
But, only last week, they discovered that the private health information of 2,000 employees, volunteers, contractors and physicians was on the laptop, including dates of last physical exam, vaccination information, and TB and Hep B status values.
A plan is in place to properly secure electronic data moving forward.
Same song, same verse, of course, so here’s hoping more organizations will act before a breach, rather than after.
