Rip of the Week: South Carolina Hospital Breached by Laptop Theft
Another hospital has suffered a costly and dangerous data breach. This one, it turns out, actually happened a few months ago. WSPA reports that Spartanburg Regional Hospital in Spartanburg, SC, has warned “potentially thousands” of patients that their personal information could be at risk thanks to a stolen laptop. An employee’s work laptop was stolen from a car, and that machine contained Social Security Numbers, addresses “and more,” though what other information was present has not been revealed. It’s another dangerous situation caused by an unsecured laptop, for certain. Thanks to Redemtech for the tip.
